What to expect

I believe that the way we navigate our adult lives — how we connect with others, interpret our experiences, and manage challenges and emotions — is deeply woven with the threads of our earliest relationships and experiences.

Often without our conscious choice, these formative years shape the foundation from which we meet the world. Sometimes, that foundation feels more like shifting sand than solid ground, making it difficult to feel secure, resilient, or truly seen.

My work is grounded in the belief that understanding this personal history is not about dwelling in the past, but about compassionately illuminating its influence on your present. Together, we will gently explore the origins of your current struggles.

This collaborative understanding creates a pathway—not just to manage overwhelming feelings, but to make sense of your inner world. From this place of insight, we can work toward a future where you feel more anchored, your experiences feel valid, and you can build a lasting, compassionate relationship with yourself.

What to expect from your first session

Whether we are meeting face to face or remotely, the first sessions will be where we begin to get to know each other. We discuss what brought you to therapy, Explanation of confidentiality rules (and exceptions), fees, personal history, goal setting, current coping strategies and we will discuss my therapeutic approach and I will answer any questions that you have about the process.

Your commitment

As a therapist, my core committment is to foster a safe, confidential and ethical environment that promotes client wellbeing through unconditional positive regard, empathy and professional competence. I am committed to honouring boundaries, respecting client autonomy, ensuring transparent communication regarding how we are working together, and maintaining accountability in a non-judgemental, collaborative relationship

How long we’ll work together

I offer short and long term work. This is something that we will discuss in our first session. We will also revirew how we are working together on a regular basis.

Where and when sessions take place

I am based in the Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett area for face to face sessions. I also have access to a therapy room in Bristol BS3. Of course the sessions can be remote using Teams or Zoom.

Sessions will take place once a week, at least, and last for 50 minutes.

‘I am not the same person as I was those many years ago when I met Julie. Through her care, her approachability and warmth, I am allowed to learn how to heal myself. Her sessions are always warm, accepting and help me to guide my way back to myself. A self that I am starting to accept and meet.'
